John Maxwell acquires full ownership of British National Pictures in Elstree and renames it British International Pictures (BIP).   He also offers 28-year-old director Alfred Hitchcock a 12-picture 3-year contract at a salary of £13,000 per year. [ADD]

The government implements the Cinematograph Films Act which establishes a quota system, set at 7.5%, for the exhibition of British films.   Australia, Austria, France and Hungary introduce similar quotas around the same time. [ADD]

– In order to capitalise on the opportunities offered by the Cinematograph Films Act, the British Lion Film Corporation purchases the dilapidated Beaconsfield Film Studios.   Writer Edgar Wallace becomes chairman of British Lion. [ADD] 

     
   

– Producer Julius Hagen and actor Henry Edwards form the Neo-Art production company, and lease Twickenham Studios [ADD]

     
   

– Herbert Wilcox and actor Nelson Keys form the British and Dominions Film Corporation, and lease a three-stage studio complex they name Imperial Studios at Elstree. [ADD]

     
   

– The Central Film Library is formed as part of the Imperial Institute (later renamed the Commonwealth Institute) to make educational and information films. [ADD]
