During a five day train journey from New York to Los Angeles, Walt Disney develops the character of Mickey Mouse.   Later in the month, Ub Iwerks modifies the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit character to turn him into Mickey. [ADD]

Loew’s ‘atmospheris’ film theatre, inside which white doves fly and the ushers’ uniforms are ‘in the splendour of Bulgarian Generals’ opens in Richmond. [ADD]

Mickey Mouse makes his debut in Walt Disney’s silent Plane Crazy, a film inspired by Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight, at a sneak preview at a cinema on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.   Sound would be added to the film later in the year. [ADD]

The major studios reject Warner BrothersVitaphone sound-on-disc format, opting instead for Western Electric’s sound-on-film system.   Cross-licensing agreements are made with RCA and Westinghouse to produce two sound-on-film formats, both compatible in projectors. [ADD]
