Noored Kotkad (Young Eagles) tells of the adventures of three students who enlist in the army when their country is invaded by Russia in a three year (1918-1920) conflict that became known as the Estonian War of Independence.   The subject became a familiar one to Estonian filmgoers due to the regularity with which the country was called upon to repel invasions from their Bolshevik neighbours.  The film isa landmark in the history of Estonian cinema, and is sometimes referred to as the country's Birth of a Nation.

 The film was digitally restored in 2008 by Taska Productions and Digital Film Finland.
