So weit die Füße tragen (2001) Synopsis
(aka As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me)
|
SPOILERS! In August 1944, Clemens Forell leaves his wife and child to fight on the Russian front, but the following year he is captured and sentenced to 25 years hard labour in the lead mines of a Siberian prison camp at Cape Dezhnev. After four years at the camp he escapes and begins a remarkable three-year 11.000 kilometre journey home to his wife and children, traveling by sled and train, but mostly on foot. On arrival in Iran, he is interrogated by the police who suspect him of being a Russian spy. He is finally set free when he is identified by his uncle, and returns home to his family in Munich in December 1952, three years and two months after escaping. |
