Dimitris Spyrou Biography |

|
Dimitris Spyrou was born in the village of Diasella, Olympia, in 1954. After studying theatre and film, he worked as an actor in theatre for a short time. Spyrou also demonstrated a flair for poetry, winning a competition in 1981 for poets under 35 years of age. In 1982, he became a director’s assistant, and also worked as a scenarist and director of production before graduating to directing in 1985 when he formed the Phaos Film production company. He has written scripts for numerous television serials, and has directed fifteen documentaries in the history and culture of Greece for Greek television. |

| In 1997, Spyrou created the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People in co-operation with the Ilias Prefecture and the support of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the General Secretariat for Youth of the Ministry of Education. The following year he created the Youth Plan, a non-profit company which provides film production and distribution, book publishing, organization of the Olympia Festival, and the production and distribution of educational programs. In March 2002, he co-founded the European Network for the Development of the Youth Audiovisual Creation with Ginette Dislaire (France) and Danckert M. Krohn (Norway). | ||||
