26/5/1907: John Wayne is Born
John Wayne’s parents moved to Winterset, Ohio from Waterloo to be closer to their parents shortly after marrying in September 1905 . Clyde Morrison was a qualified pharmacist, and the M. E. Smith Drugstore in Winterset was looking for a registered pharmacist. They lived in a small, four-room house on Second Street following Wayne's birth. Wayne was the couple’s first child, and his birth was not an easy one for his mother Molly as he weighed a strapping 13lb. He never returned to his birthplace once the Morrison family moved away in 1910, although some suggest he secretly paid a visit in the 1950s. As well as being the birthplace of America's foremost Western star, Winterset has provided locations for the 1971 film Cold Turkey and Clint Eastwood's The Bridges of Madison County (1995).
