1916: The Wayne's Move to GlendaleThe family moved once again following a series of increasingly bitter rows between Clyde and Molly. By late 1915 it was becoming clear even to Clyde that they would never make a going concern of the near-arid farmland upon which they had toiled so arduously over the past year. Clyde’s father had grown increasingly frail and senile during 1915 and had to be placed in a Veterans Hospital in Glendale. Compared to Lancaster, Glendale was a little paradise with electricity, gas, water and paved streets and so, following a brief period of employment in Los Angeles, Clyde won a job at Glendale’s pharmacy and moved his family to rented property in the town.
