20/1/1904: Italy's First Purpose-Built Cinema

The Cinema Moderno and Cinematografo Modernetto were twin screens built side by side on the Piazza della Repubblica in a colonnaded terrace building that was originally the home of the Galleria Estada and is now the Estada Hotel.   The cinemas were decorated in a Beaux Arts style which included cherubs painted on the ceiling.
