17/9/1904: The Kosmorama Opens
The Kosmorama had a seating capacity of 158 and showed a programme of 25-minute shows. A uniformed doorman known as ‘The Swiss’ adorned in a three-cornered hat with a broad bandolier across his chest and clutching a ceremonial staff would attempt to entice passers-by into the cinema. The gentleman must have done an impressive job because owner Constantin Philipsen would open a further 25 Kosmoramas in provincial towns across the country. [ADD]
