Swamikannu Vincent Begins His Travels

Swamikannu Vincent of Coimbatore was a draughtsman for the South Indian Railways. He purchased a projector from a Frenchman named M. Dupont in Tiruchirapalli for 2000 Rupees and established a travelling tent theatre he called Edison’s Cinematography thus becoming the first film exhibitor in the South. Vincent took his travelling theatre all around the country, travelling to such diverse places as Bombay, Peshawar, Lahore, Madras, Trivandrum, and even Rangoon.
