Sergei Eisenstein  comes under intense criticism for Ivan Groznyy II, facing claims that he has made Ivan look like ‘a man lacking in will and in character, resembling the irresolute Hamlet, and his court into a den of the Ku Klux Klan.’   Russian leader Stalin also condemns the work and it remains unreleased until the late 50s.
