Australia

– Action Ciné Jeunes is established to promote film-related educational and creative activity for young people. [ADD}

Brazil

– Nelson Pareira’s neo-realism style film Rio 40 Graus (Rio 40 Degrees), filmed on the streets using non-professional actors, is released.   The film marks the beginning of the era of 'cinema novo.' [ADD}

Denmark

– A three-year American embargo of film exports into Denmark begins. [ADD}

– V. Shantaram’s Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje (The Tinkling of Anklets) is released.   It is the first Technicolor film made in India by Indian technicians. [ADD}

Israel

– Thorold Dickinson’s Giv’a 24 Eina Ona (Hill 24 Doesn’t Answer), the first film produced in Israel, is released. [ADD}
