11/11/1895: Filoteo Alberini

On the 11th November 1895, Filoteo Alberini, an engineer at the Instituto Geografico Militare, obtained a patent in Italy for his Kinetografo Alberini, a camera, projector and printer. There is no evidence that Alberini’s invention actually produced any worthwhile film, and his invention was soon overshadowed by that of the Lumieres. Alberini would, however, go on to become a major player in early Italian cinema – although it would be another ten years before Italy’s cinema began operating as a recognisable industry. [ADD}
