7/6/1896: Denmark's First Screening
Denmark witnessed its first cinema show courtesy of Vilhelm Pacht, an artist, lithographer and paint manufacturer. The show was held in a wooden pavilion at the Haymarket (now the Town Hall Square) in Copenhagen on the 7th June 1896. Four days later, on 11th June, the entire Danish Royal family paid Pacht a visit to see for themselves this wonderful new attraction. The shows ran from 2pm to 11pm each day, and tickets cost 50 ore for adults, and 25 ore for children. Unfortunately, the shows were brought to an abrupt halt on the 30th June when the building was burnt down in an arson attack. [ADD]
