27/5/1896: Romania's First Screening
Rumania (as it was then known) welcomed the cinema on the 27th May 1896. The first programme of Lumiere films took place in Bucharest, in the editorial offices of a daily French-language newspaper called L’Independence Roumaine. Films shown at this first screening included A Dinner, The Cycling Lesson, l’Arrivee d’un train en Gare, Coming out of Church after Mass, The Paris Opera Square, A Picnic, and The Zoo. [ADD]
