9/6/1897: Thailand's First Screening
The first cinema screening took place in Thailand on the 9th June 1897, and was advertised as the “wonderful Parisian Cinematograph”, suggesting it was a selection of Lumiere films projected by a Cinematograph.
During the same year, King Chulalongkorn, the country’s ruler, and his brother, Prince Sanbassatra were filmed a couple of times during a state visit to Europe. Both of these films still exist today. The prince brought some film-making equipment back from Paris with him, and began a royal fascination with movie-making which continues to this day. Sanbassatra even went on to make a number of films that were shown commercially. [ADD]
