Censored Duo Censured

Lost in Beijing (2007)

The ban imposed on Fang Li and Li Yu came in the wake of the state-run Administration of Radio, Film and Television’s clampdown on erotic content in films.   The Bureau told Fang that the Lost in Beijing could not be screened at Berlinale because it was unhappy about the moral tone of the film, but the film was shown uncut because the producers claimed there was insufficient time the make changes.   Beijing Laurel Films and Fang Li were also banned for illegally distributing unapproved and pornographic clips online.   In an interview, Fang Li claimed, ‘We are the victims in this whole thing.   One of our unprocessed, unedited images was stolen and distributed on the internet… and I’m being made to take the responsibility.’ [ADD]
