Charlie Wilson Loses War in Russia

Yevgeni Beginin, head of UPI Russia, denied the reason the Charlie Wilson's War failed to find a distributor in Russia was because of its subject matter – the Soviet-Afghan war, stating that ‘We simply decided that the film would not make a profit.’

One local blogger, who had seen the film on pirated DVD, claimed ‘The whole film shows Russians, or rather Soviets, as brutal killers.’

The film reached number 3 at the box office in neighbouring Ukraine. [ADD]
