Men From the Ministry Squeeze Filmmakers

Officials at the Ministry were reported to be offering increased salaries and promising greater artistic freedom to personnel working in the Iranian television industry.   The Iranian film industry was one of the most productive in the Middle East at the time, averaging 70-80 features per year.  A side effect of the cutback in financial support for filmmaking was that Iranian filmmakers of different political affiliations were starting to work together.

An Iranian filmmaker said, ‘You used to have filmmakers who were right wing and those who were left wing but now they've joined up, having meetings and talking together. That's not a bad thing.‘ [ADD]
