Yasukuni Cancelled

The decision by four cinemas – three in Tokyo and one in Osaka – to cancel planned screenings of Li Ying’s film Yasukuni, came in the wake of death threats made to staff at Argo Pictures, the film’s distributor, following press screenings late in 2007.

Argo issued a statement saying, ‘We perceive a danger to the freedom of expression and the freedom of speech in Japanese society.’ [ADD]
