Greenland's Debut Feature

Greenland’s first feature film, the $1 million (£510,000) Nuummioq is about a 35-year-old Greenlander who learns he has an incurable illness shortly after meeting his potential soul mate.   While Greenland had been used as a location by foreign films, Nuummioq was the first to use local financing, cast and crew.

In an interview with Variety, producer Mikisoq H. Lynge said, ‘Usually you see these cliches about Greenland as if they’re going through a checklist: a kayak, hunting in the ice or showing the indigenous as alcoholics like the Aborigines.   These are so cliched and we’re tired of just being used as a location. We want to get in the game. How many times do you get the chance to be part of a historic project?’ [ADD]
