Putin Goes to the Movies

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s tour of the £125 million Russian World Studios  - which claimed to be the first dedicated production studio built in Russia in 60 years – took place during the All-Russian Conference on Cinematography at the St. Petersburg complex, which was to be officially launched later in 2008.  

 RWS, who were owned by JSFC Sistema, planned to invest a further $150 million (£85.3 million) on Phases II and III of construction which would incorporate a 21,500 square-foot  stage, a special effects studio and film processing lab, as business plans were improved.

 It was estimated that the studio’s production capacity was 20 projects per year, enabling it to conduct simultaneous production of around half-a-dozen films and TV series. [ADD]
