28/4/2009: Travolta Duo
Charged Pleasant Bridgewater, a former Progressive Liberal Party senator, and ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne, who both pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to extort $25 million from John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston just hours after the death of their 16-year-old son Jett were advised that the case would be heard by Supreme Court Justice Anita Allen in New Providence on 21st September 2009. Bridgewater was also accused of abetment. Attorney Carlson Shurland, a pro bono attorney for Lightbourne, requested that the arraignment should not proceed as he had not received witness statements, tapes and other official reports upon which the prosecution would rely. The request was refused when Bernard Turner, the Director of Public Prosecutions, told the court that Shurland had received all necessary documents, and that he intended to call 14 witnesses, including Travolta. Both defendants received bail in the amount of $50,000. (Source: The Bahama Journal)
