24/4/2009: Tsuyoshi Kusanagi Arrested for Indecent Exposure

Tsuyoshi Kusanagi

Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, a major TV and film star and member of the band Smap was arrested in central Tokyo’s Hinokicho Park where he was discovered romping naked after a heavy drinking session on Thursday 23rd April, an incident that left Toho, the distributors of Ballad – Na no naki koi no uta (Ballad – Song of Love Without a Name), in which Kusanagi stars, with no option but to postpone its release.

The contrite actor was later released and gave a press conference the following day to apologise for his behaviour and promise to reform.   'I drank a lot, and did not know what I was doing. As an adult, I did something shameful' Kusanagi admitted.  Although Toho asserted that the film would still be released in September as originally planned, the screening of trailers and distribution of posters and other promotional material was postponed indefinitely.   TV ads for Toyota and Proctor & Gamble in which Kusanagi appeared were also promptly cancelled following the actor's arrest.
