2/2/2009 - Filming Begins on The Great Cause of China's Foundation

The Great Cause of China’s Foundation, a film conceived by the Beijing Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference to celebrate the 60^th anniversary of the Communist revolution, was proclaimed by its state-funded producers to contain the ‘most powerful line-up in the history of Chinese film. Among those featuring in the film, which tells the story of civil war rivals Mao Tse-tung (Tang Guogjiang) and Chiang Kai-shek (Zhang Guoli) were Andy Lau, Jiang Wen, Ge You, Chen Kaige and Feng Ziaogang, all of whom were said to have offered their services at a discounted rate.

Shooting of the film, which was financed by the China Film Group, began at the Huairou production base near Beijing and was scheduled to complete in early May 2009 after location shooting in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Nanjing. [ADD]
