Universal Back Lot to Re-Open
Universal was quick to rebuild the back lot following the fire that destroyed its old back lot in the summer of 2008. Sets that were rebuilt included Courthouse Square, Brownstone and New York streets, while a number of new sets were constructed, including a London street, an urban cityscape featuring glass and steel structures, a firehouse and a gas station. The studio said that the cityscape location would be Los Angeles’s largest modern urban back lot shooting location, and that all the sets were designed with the aid of filmmakers and directors to meet contemporary film production needs.
