Claude Berri Seriously Ill

French actor, director and producer Claude Berri was admitted to the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital early on Sunday 11th January 2009 where a hospital authority reported that the 74-year-old’s ‘neurological condition is very serious.’
After appearing in films for such directors as Claude Chabrol, Berri turned to writing, directing and producing. His most successful and well-known films included Jean de Florette (1986), Manon des Sources (1986) and Germinal (1993). He also produced Tess, Roman Polanski’s 1979 version of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbevilles, and won an Oscar in 1965 for his short film Le Poulet. [ADD]
