John Travolta's Son Found Dead

The body of Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of 54-year-old John Travolta and 46-year-old Kelly Preston, was found in the bathroom of their holiday home in the Old Bahama Bay resort where the family had flown with a party of approximately 60 friends to celebrate the New Year.   His body was found on the morning of Friday 2^nd January 2009 by carer Jeff Kathrein.   It was believed Jett had suffered a seizure and hit his head on the bathtub as he fell to the floor.

 The youth was accompanied by his parents in an ambulance to Freeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jett, Travolta and Preston’s oldest child, had a history of seizures as a result of a bout of Kawasaki disease he suffered when he was two-years-old.   The illness causes an inflammation of blood vessels in young children.   Since Jett’s illness, his parents had followed a strict detoxification program devised by the Church of Scientology, of which both Travolta and Preston were practising members.   Because of the frequency and severity of Jett’s seizures, the family had a system of alarms in place, and two nannies were always on hand in case he fell ill.

 Attorney Michael McDermott, a family friend who was holidaying with the Travoltas, told reporters, ‘John and Kelly had everything possible set up for an emergency in Jett's life. Jeff (Kathrein) slept eight feet from Jett. There was a baby monitor right next to him in his bed. And a chimer attached to the bathroom door announced when Jett was going in. All of this was because he was prone to seizures. Jeff got to him within minutes of his fall, we believe. He tried to revive him while John was alerted.’ [ADD]
