Violence at Notorious Screenings
The Greensboro incident happened as customers queued in the lobby of the Grand 18 at Four Seasons Station just after 9pm on 16th January 2009, the film’s opening night. A 32-year-old man later named as Clive O’Connor was rushed to Moses Cone Hospital to receive emergency surgery after being shot in the abdomen. Police reported that actor Jamal ‘Gravy’ Woolard, who plays B.I.G. in the film, was in the cinema at the time of the shooting.
The stabbings took place at 3.25am on the 18th January 2008 at the Djumbala nightclub at 1370 Ralph Avenue in East Flatbush in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn. Police responding to a 911 call reported that a 21-year-old victim had been stabbed numerous times, while three other victims had each been stabbed once. All four men were taken to the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center where the 21-year-old was reported to be in critical condition and the three others in stable condition. The party was promoted as the ‘official’ after-party, but Notorious distributor Fox Searchlight said the party had no connection to the film. [ADD]
