2/3/2009: TCPA Urges Wage Capping
The Television and Cinema Producers Association was created by 18 top Russian film and television production companies, representing more than 80% of the industry, in late 2008. It announced its recommendations at a time when wage inflation in the country’s buoyant film industry had seen day rates for actors reaching between $36,000 (£25,550) and $280,000 (£198,780), and urged an upper limit of $2,300 (£1,633).
The organisation's recommendations, according to the newspaper Kommersant, stated that screenwriters would earn no more than $18,000 (£12,780) for feature films and $8,000 (£5,680) for made-for-TV films. Payments for other crew members would range from $1,130 (£802) and $1,700 (£1,206) per day.
The proposed wage cuts were in response tt the reduced fees television channels were willing to pay for product during the global recession. [ADD]
