5/6/2010: Missing Iranian
Director Daryush Shokof is Found Iranian director Daryush Shokof was found near the River Rhine by three teenagars after going missing on 24th May. Prior to his re-appearance, the 55-year-old director was last seen at a rail station in Cologne where he was en-route to Paris. Shokof’s friends alerted authorities to his disappearance after he failed to respond to telephone calls and e-mail messages. Their fears for his safety were made worse by the fact that he had told them he had been receiving threatening phone calls. Shokof’s films, such as Berlin: Hitler’s Grave and Iran Zendan, had been critical of the Iranian government and depicted scenes of mistreatment of Iranian prisoners. Shokof, who was born in Tehran, left Iran in the 70s and had lived in Cologne for about 25 years. He was taken to hospital, where officer reported he was in a stable condition.
